AbstractTwo bioactive bone cements were compared with poly(methylmethacrylate) (PMMA) cement. Cement A was prepared from precipitated hydroxyapatite and tricalcium phosphate, using an aqueous solution of Na 2HPO 4. Cement B was prepared by crushing a bioactive glass composed of SiO 2, CaO, P 2O 5 and Na 2O. The powder was mixed with NH 4H 2PO 4/(NH 4) 2 PO 4 aqueous solution buffered at pH = 7.4. The bioactive cements exhibited different in vivo behaviors but both performed better than PMMA cement.
