BEYOND THE LAB COAT: Special Edition

Every year INEB welcomes several new and enthusiastic master students. They share the habits of a generation and some life experiences, but not the academic path, since all of them pursued different areas of study, going from biology to biomedical engineering, or even, bioengineering.

They describe their first steps at the lab as full of mixed feelings, such as joy or fear of the unknown. But, together they joined this adventure and integrated different groups and teams at INEB.

In a short relaxed talk, the future INEBs’ MSc. remembered their first obstacles once they started working at the lab. The integration on some place new is not always easy and the “short” period that they spend here (around 1 year) constitutes the first obstacle. Even though they don’t have a definite place to sit at the lab, in few months they found their own position in a solid group, willing to help each other. From the beginning they felt challenged by the level of scientific work that they were proposed to do at INEB. The degree of proficiency that they were submitted to, made them aware they were part of a real team, leading them to grow faster in their scientific path.
