Former INEB researcher receives MSC Young Research Award

Elsevier and Materials Science and Engineering C announced the recipients of the 2014 Young Researcher Award to recognize research excellence in experimental and theoretical topics at the interface of the biological sciences and materials engineering by individuals who are thirty-five years old or younger as of the 31st of December, 2014 or are in an untenured, tenure-track position (equivalent to an assistant professor-level position in the U.S. academic system).
The 2014 recipients are Suntharvathanan Mahalingam and Fabiola Munarin.


Fabiola Munarin obtained her European PhD in Bioengineering from Politecnico di Milano, Italy, in 2011. Her research interests involve the use of natural polymers to produce 3-dimensional systems for tissue regeneration and neovascularization. She was visiting researcher at Instituto de Engenharia Biomédica, Porto (Portugal) from 2009 to 2010. She joined the Coulombe Laboratory, Brown University, in 2014, focusing her research on cardiac regeneration.


The MSE Young Investigator awards were presented at the Opening Ceremony of the Society for Biomaterials Annual Meeting which took place on Wednesday 15 April 2015, 12pm – 2pm at the Charlotte Convention Center, Charlotte, North Carolina, USA.
