ADVANCED SUMMER SCHOOL | INFLAMMATION /REPAIR INTERFACE

ADVANCED SUMMER SCHOOL |
INFLAMMATION /REPAIR INTERFACE | 25-28 JUNE 1013 | PORTO-PORTUGAL

This course will have duration of four days, with lab sessions being held during the first day and lectures in the last three days. Lectures will take place in a very informal environment, and participants will be encouraged to bring questions that may contribute to the advancement of knowledge through integrative approaches.

The inflammation – repair interplay has been raising considerable interest in recent years. Regulation of this crosstalk is crucial in maintaining homeostasis without pathology and novel therapeutic strategies can take advantage of a better knowledge on what regulates this balance. In this edition of our Summer School we will bring closer immunologists with tissue regeneration/repair and biomaterial scientists to discuss what is becoming an exciting and stimulating new interdisciplinary area of research.

INEB (Instituto de Engenharia Biomédica), University of Porto, IPATIMUP (Instituto de Patologia e Imunologia Molecular da Universidade do Porto) and IBEC (Institut de Bioenginyeria de Catalunya, Barcelona) organize a series of Advanced Summer Schools under the general theme of Interrogations at the Biointerface. These Summer Schools run alternatively in Porto and Barcelona, preferably around the 23rd of June. In Barcelona, San Juan is taking place in the night of the 23rd June and is known as the "night of fire". São João is the biggest festival of Porto calendar, and one of Europe's liveliest street parties.

INEB and IPATIMUP are now hosting the 3rd Advanced Summer School of the series that will focus on the Inflammation/Repair Interface and be held in Porto from the 25th to the 28th of June 2013. This year’s Summer School has the duration of four days and includes lectures and hands-on lab sessions.

A previous series of advanced courses run by INEB was held also at this time of the year. The general theme was Cell-Biomaterial Interactions and over 100 participants from ca. 12 countries attended each course. Distinctive features of these courses were: top-notch scientists, mainly from Europe and the United States, were invited as guest speakers; two days of hands-on lab sessions on advanced laboratory techniques were organized for a limited number of participants (ca. 20); the targeted audience were PhD students and post-Docs; posters presented by students were discussed in detail with faculty members, who stayed for the first three days.
A relaxing atmosphere and a (usually…) nice weather also helped in making these courses a success.
