ESB 2011 - European Society for Biomaterials Annual Conference 2011

The Network of Excellence for Functional Biomaterials (NFB) is the host of the 24th European Conference on Biomaterials in Dublin in September 2011.

The conference is the annual meeting of the European Society for Biomaterials (ESB) which is a non-profit scientific society whose main objective is to encourage progress in the field of biomaterials in all its aspects, including research, teaching and clinical applications, as well as to foster any other related activity. ESB was founded in March 1976, and became a member of the International Union of Societies for Biomaterials Sciences and Engineering (IUS-BSE) at its inception in 1979. The ESB has approximately 750 members from 32 countries worldwide.

The conference will bring to Dublin - Ireland those from the international community who are engaged or interested in the field of biomaterials including members from academia, medicine and industry. Over 900 delegates are expected to attend the event which is one of the premier scientific events of its kind in Europe.

This conference is also supported by researchers at the Nanotechnology and Integrated Bioengineering Centre (NIBEC) based at the University of Ulster in Northern Ireland making it an All-Ireland led initiative, a reflection of the close links between the NFB and NIBEC through their collaboration in Competence Centre for Functional Biomaterials (CCFB).

It is the first time that Ireland will host the ESB annual conference reflecting the presence of the critical mass of biomaterials research conducted at NFB.
