INEB has 1 new FCT researcher

INEB is the host of 1 researcher that received an FCT Researcher Grant: Cristina Barrias. The FCT Researcher Programme, from the Portuguese Science Foundation, aimed to create a talent base of scientific leaders, by providing 5-year funding for the most talented and promising researchers, across all scientific areas and nationalities.

Cristina Barrias graduated in Chemical Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP) in 1997, and got her PhD in Engineering Sciences in 2005 (University of Porto, UP). Her PhD studies were performed at INEB (Instituto de Engenharia Biomédica) and at IBMC (Institute for Molecular and Cell Biology. During her PhD, she was also a visiting researcher at INSERM U443 (University of Bordeaux, France). She carried out her postdoc at INEB in collaboration with the University of Nevada-Reno, USA. She is an Assistant Investigator at INEB since 2009. She is also an Invited Auxiliary Professor at Instituto de Ciências Biomédicas Abel Salazar (ICBAS, UP). Her research interests are related with Biomaterials and Regenerative Medicine. She has been mainly focused on the development of molecularly designed hydrogels that mimic the natural extracellular matrix, to be used as advanced 3D-models for in vitro cell culture and as injectable cell-delivery vehicles. She is author of 28 articles in international peer-reviewed journals, 3 book chapters and 1 patent. She has 40 oral and 49 poster communications in scientific meetings, and has given 27 invited lectures in conferences and academic seminars.
